Business Case Instead of Gut Feeling: Profitability, Product-Market Fit, and Token Costs – with Simonetta Batteiger (Founder @ Inclusive Leaders, ex eyeo, ex Vistra)

Money – not a very romantic topic for anyone who sees themselves as an advocate for users. A conversation about why product work without commercials isn’t sustainable, how easy it is to get started with business cases, and what changes in the math when every inference costs money.

What I’ve learned from 12+ years in digital product management:

Digital initiatives are challenging.

Three examples:

  • Realigning the digital strategy

Everything seemed clear. In a big workshop with people from every part of the company, you agreed on a new focus for your product development. One idea, for example, is to rethink every workflow in light of AI.

Six months have passed, and instead of using the power of LLMs to transform your product, the teams are still working through the old roadmap.

The realignment had no effect, and you are losing valuable time in the race for the very potential you were after.

  • Introducing a new framework

Everything seemed clear. You decided to introduce modern processes for how your product and engineering teams work. You concluded, for example, that OKRs (objectives and key results) might be the right fit.

Nine months have passed, and your verdict: measuring outcomes and filling in the OKR sheets creates extra work. Not much has improved yet.

A framework that works for so many organizations isn’t having an impact for you yet.

  • A new understanding of roles

Everything seemed clear. You learned and agreed that empowered, cross-functional, agile teams are the best way to ship valuable features fast. So the top-down routines were abolished.

That was twelve months ago, but instead of a dynamic, high-energy culture, there is uncertainty: leadership complains about a lack of innovation, the product people point to a lack of strategy, and the engineers complain about chaos.

A way of working that succeeds in the strongest tech organizations is off to a rocky start for you.

Sound familiar?

Completely normal. An innovative digital culture takes time – and sometimes benefits from outside help.

I help you find and implement sustainable solutions that really fit you!

What clients say

Translated from German

  • “After eight years of working together, directly and indirectly, I can say this: in my career, I have met only a few product strategists who think as critically, work as consistently hypothesis-driven, and validate ideas instead of debating them – combined with an exceptionally high bar for product quality, absolute reliability, and a collaboration that is simply fun.”

    – Björn Wind / CEO & Founder @ voiio

  • “Jan is an exceptional asset to our crew: hands-on product management around our data platform, development of innovative data products, and leadership coaching. He brings many years of practical experience to our context, because he has sat in these roles himself. I take directly applicable ideas away from every coaching session. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real change.”

    – Jonas Franke / CPO & Co-Founder @ Pirate Ship

  • “Jan helped me keep a clear view and focus on what mattered during the critical phase of our search for PMF. With targeted questions, he made the key dependencies of our product approach visible and showed what our strategy had to aim for to improve our chances of success. His coaching is fun and enables rather than dictates: you come away with questions that help you truly internalize frameworks.”

    – Timo Waurick / CPO @ Holi Social

  • “Working with Jan was not only always on equal footing but also marked by genuine honesty – always with the goal of delivering the best results. Especially for me, as someone whose strengths lie more in sales than in product development, the collaboration was not just pleasant but truly moved us forward. Thank you so much, Jan!”

    – Leonardo Jähnsch / CEO & Founder @ improov

Bringing Out Individual Potential!

One thing I have learned for certain in practice: every organization is different, and every team is unique. That’s why there is no one-size-fits-all method you can simply roll out.

Instead, we look at your situation in detail, together. The clear goal: we strengthen what makes you successful and find undogmatic approaches to your challenges, which we then implement together across every part of your company. To make this last and create real change, I support you as a consultant, as a coach, and in the hands-on work alike.

Working together, you benefit from my broad toolkit, which I don’t just know in theory but have used myself. So you benefit directly from my experience of avoiding the pitfalls between theory and practice.

So look forward to down-to-earth, outcome-focused craft in a field that otherwise loves throwing buzzwords around.
